Acute pain has often been defined as a condition that causes a considerable amount of discomfort to the user. It is known to last for a couple of hours to months, lasting up to 6 months. At times, this acute pain can also morph into chronic pain.
Since pain is an elaborate term in itself, there is no particular cause or a set of causes that definitively cause acute pain. Acute pain is a broad term that ultimately describes a mild to sharp pain that comes on suddenly and lasts anywhere from a few seconds to up to a couple months.
Following are some of the most common symptoms associated with pain;
So how can we tackle acute pain? The answer lies in the advent of painkillers into the world. A commonly used painkiller is Soma. Soma pain medication is perhaps one of the most used pain meds for getting relief from acute pain.
Let us now see how Soma helps us in getting relief from acute pain.
Soma is the brand version of Carisoprodol. Carisoprodol is a centrally acting muscle relaxant that brings pain relief to the user and is also known to help get relief from the inflammation that comes along with the pain. Soma (Carisoprodol) changes the way we perceive pain, and this makes us feel as though the pain has subsided. The compound attaches itself to the synapses of the nerves in the vicinity of the pain inflicted area. This blocks the pain sensation from reaching the brain to the spinal cord, giving us the perception of decreased pain in the area.
So Soma seems like a useful pain med... Are there any downsides to using Soma pain medication?
Yes and no…
Yes because every medication in the world is bound to have some side effect or other that may affect each individual differently. Some of the most common side effects of Soma are;
And here’s why I said no. As it can be seen, the side effects of Soma are easily diagnosed and are milder side effects as compared to other pain medications of the same class. It is to be noted that it is ultimately up to us, how we use the medication for our benefit and not let the med hamper us in any way.
Severe addiction often begins with a legitimate medical issue that turns into dependency as the body develops a tolerance to the drug and requires larger doses to feel the same effects. Soma is no exception.
Whereas Soma was originally thought to have a low potential for abuse and addiction, recent evidence shows that it is habit-forming, especially when taken in combination with other drugs. Most instances of Soma addiction are due to the medication being combined with other drugs or alcoholic substances. Soma alone poses a low risk for mild psychological dependence. In the case that an individual is addicted to Soma, and combines this drug with other substances like alcohol or opioid, the mixture can generate a severe psychological addiction and/or physical dependence on Soma.
Below is a list of withdrawal symptoms associated with Soma dependence.
As part of the evolved species of Homo sapiens, we have the proper understanding capability of what’s good and what is not. So we should be careful to not use a pain med like Soma to the extent that it becomes a habit and ultimately leads to our deterioration in health.
